Mumbai, Nov 17: Ahead of the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film Padmavati, Rajput Karni Sena again warned of dire consequences if theatres screen the movie. Speaking to news agency ANI, Rajput Karni Sena president Lokendra Singh Kalvi said a situation has been created where we cannot apply our brains. “Don’t provoke us,” Kalvi said. The outfit has called for a nationwide bandh on December 1 against the release of Padmavati. Also Read - Heeramandi First Look: Sanjay Leela Bhansali To Make His Digital Debut With Netflix Web-Series On 'Where Courtesans Were Queens'

“Mat bhadkaao humein, ye film nahin lagne denge. Josh hai, hosh kho dene waali stithi hai, iss stithi ko laa kaun raha hai? (Don’t provoke us. We are angry. We cannot be silent now. Who is creating such atmosphere?),” Karni Sena chief said. The founder of the organisation had earlier said that not only the Rajput community or Hindu organisations but even Muslim leaders had come against the film, against which there was resentment across the country. A Brahmin group also conducted a signature campaign in blood demanding a ban on the film.  Even the Khawaja Moinuddin Chishti Dargah in Ajmer has issued a statement requesting a ban. Kalvi said that the Sanjay Leela Bhansali had promised to organise a pre-screening of the film before the censor board’s approval but he released the promo and song without taking the Rajput community into confidence. He said that now the Sena is not demanding any pre-screening but a total ban because the filmmaker had “betrayed”. The Rajput Karni Sena has been protesting against the release of Padmavati and their stir is intensifying with each passing day. The Rajput organisation threatened actress Deepika Padukone, who is playing the role of Padmavati, to chop-off her nose if the film is released. Their activists vandalised a cinema hall in Kota for showing the trailer of Padmavati. In January, activists of the Karni Sena had manhandled with the crew of Padmavati in Jaipur, claiming that Bhansali was “distorting” historical facts in the movie.

Padmavati features Deepika Padukone in the title role as Rani Padmavati, alongside Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh and Ranveer Singh as Sultan Alauddin Khilji with Aditi Rao Hydari and Jim Sarbh in supporting roles. The film is scheduled for release on December 1.
