Padmavati Row: Form Committee to Remove Controversial Scenes, Writes Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje

Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) sent back 'Padmavati' to the filmmakers due to 'technical reasons'. Reports claim the film's release is likely to be delayed after the censor board said that it will be reviewed as per set norms.

Jaipur, Nov 18: Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on Saturday suggested the Centre should form a committee to review Sanjay Leela Bhansali directed film Padmavati. In a letter written to Minister of Information and Broadcasting Smriti Irani, Raje said the committee can suggest the removal of scenes which allegedly hurts the sentiments of protesters.

The film on mythical character Rani Padmini has irked the members of Rajput Karni Sena. The fringe outfit has been opposing the film when its shooting commenced in Rajasthan last year. Its members even manhandled Bhansali in August this year. The tensions reached its zenith after the member of Karni Sena threatened to chop off the nose of Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone.

“The censor board should also analyze the possible results after release of a film rather than just giving its certificate to a film. A committee comprising of historians, film personalities and from aggrieved party should sit and discuss on the screenplay of the film. Thereafter, suitable changes should be made to ensure film may not hurt the sentiments of the society as a whole,” Raje has said in her letter.

Karni Sena leader Mahipal Singh Makrana said that while Kshatriyas respected women, but if the film was not banned and Padukone does not stop inciting sentiments with her provocative language, the Rajputs will not lag behind in acting.

He asked why was Padukone, who has the citizenship of Denmark, speaking such provocative language? Makrana claimed that a cinema hall in Kota was rampaged as a result of such provocative language. “Shri Rajput Karni Sena has now just conveyed a lesson to Deepika Padukone to stop making provocative statements or face the result,” Makrana said.
