Indian Army will soon induct indigenous loitering munition Nagastra-1. Nagastra-1 is capable of destroying the post and bunkers. The induction of these loitering munitions will be done under emergency procurement. The loitering munitions are also known as suicide drones.
These loitering munitions are prepared by Economic Explosives Limited which is a subsidiary of Solar Industries India Ltd. The company is located in Nagpur.
The trials of these loitering munitions were conducted in the terrain of Ladakh’s Nubra Valley. Now, the fighter jets will not be required and these suicide drones will be good enough to target the positions of the enemy. The suicide drone has two variants which can achieve full endurance of 60 minutes flight and it’s operational range is 15 kilometres.
During the trial, it was observed for the first time in the world that man-portable loitering munitions were equipped with 4 kilograms of loitering munitions. These loitering munitions can reach a flight ceiling of 4500 kms.
Nagastra-1 loitering munitions are fixed wing drones. These drones can be targeted with arms and ammunition and it can be operated through tripods. The weight of these is 6 kilograms and it can fly for 60 minutes. These loitering munitions are 40% cheaper than Israel and Poland. Two years ago, solar Energy had taken a stake in Zed Motion Autonomous System.
