Pakistan marines open fire at Indian fishermen in Arabian sea; 24 held as captives

Pakistan is said to have seized 837 Indian boats and has put 257 Indian fishermen in jails in 2015

New Delhi, Oct 15: The Pakistan marines fired openly on 4 Indian boats in the Arabian Sea and and detained 24 fishermen boarded on it. The fishers were spotted by the Pakistan navy on Thursday afternoon, and subsequently fired at them in an indiscriminate manner. However, the fishermen had not entered the neighbouring country’s water body.

According to reports carried by India Today, the victims were surfing within the Indian maritime border, off the coast of Gujarat. As of now, no official statement on the incident has been released by the two countries. (ALSO READ: Sri Lankan Navy arrests 19 Tamil Nadu fishermen)

This is the second occasion within the past 30 days, when the Pakistan marines have adopted an aggressive approach. On September 18, one fisherman was killed by in a similar onslaught. Around a dozen fishers were detained then.

The bitterness of relation between the political establishment of the two countries reflect in the aggression shown by border and naval forces. Pakistan is said to have seized 837 Indian boats and has put 257 Indian fishermen in jails, according to a PTI report. A delegation from India is expected to reach Pakistan to inspect the seized the boats and discuss the menace with the Pakistani authorities.
