The Pakistani Army violated the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Lipa Valley by opening fire on Indian Army positions. Pakistan used small arms and resorted to mortar shelling on the intervening night of October 26-27. The unprovoked firing reportedly targeted forward Indian posts, prompting Indian troops to respond effectively. The exchange of fire has heightened tension in the area, though no casualties have been reported so far.
In August, some media reports had claimed that Pakistan violated the ceasefire by firing across the border in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch region. However, the Indian Army denied these claims, clarifying in an official statement that “there has been NO ceasefire violation along the Line of Control.”
The latest incident took place in the Leepa Valley, a high-altitude area about 9 km long, which runs through the Kazinag Spring. The valley has historically been a key route for infiltration attempts across the LoC, making it a strategically sensitive zone for both India and Pakistan.
