Srinagar: Pakistan on Friday violated ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Sawjian sector of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian Army, meanwhile, is responding to the intermittent firing of small arms and shelling of mortars efficiently. Earlier on April 2, the Indian Army had completely destroyed seven Pakistani posts across the LoC, while retaliating to cross border shelling by Pakistani troops who targeted border areas in Rajouri and Poonch districts. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) of Pakistan also confirmed that three Pakistani soldiers lost their lives along the LoC in retaliatory firing by Indian forces.

As a precautionary measure, following the shelling, all schools along the borderline in Poonch and Rajouri districts were closed. Meanwhile, the people were advised to stay indoors amid the shelling by Pakistan.

The incident came a day after three persons including a Border Security Force (BSF) inspector and a five-year-old girl were killed as Pakistani troops heavily shelled forward areas along the LoC in Poonch district. In the incident, 24 others were left injured.
