Palghar By-election Result News Updates: BJP’s Gavit Rajendra Wins by 29,572 Votes

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday, May 31 retained Maharashtra’s Palghar Lok Sabha seat after its candidate Gavit Rajendra Dhedya defeated Shiv Sena’s Shriniwas Wanaga by over 29,000 votes. The Palghar bypoll was necessitated after the death of sitting BJP MP Chintaman Wanaga due to massive heart attack in January this year. Counting of votes for the crucial Palghar Lok Sabha seat in north Konkan began at 8 am.

As many as seven candidates were in fray in Palghar though the fight was primarily between Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Rajendra Gavit and Shiv Sena candidate Shriniwas Wanaga. Damodar Shindga of the Congress, Baliram Jadhav of the Bahujan Vikas Agadhi and a candidate of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) were also in race.

Ahead of polls, BJP had roped in Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Minister Smriti Irani for campaigning.

Meanwhile, counting of votes is also taking place in Bhandara-Gondiya and Palus-Kadegaon Assembly constituency. In Bhandara-Gondiya, the bypoll was necessitated after Nana Patole quit as an MP to quit the saffron party and return to the Congress while in Palus-Kadegaon Assembly constituency it was necessitated due to death of sitting MLA and senior Congressman Patangrao Kadam.
