Mumbai, April 5: After a leaked documents of the international law firm Mossack Foncesca revealed the names of a slew of celebrities and politicians allegedly involved in tax evasions, there has been a lot of reaction worldwide. But in India, it seems that people have not been able to grasp the full significance of what the leak means, despite the names of some 500 Indians figuring in the list.

One of the most shocking names was that of veteran Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan, who on Tuesday issued a clarification. Bachchan has denied ever evading tax and said that all his overseas business transactions have been well within the compliance of the law. Alleging that his name was being’misused’, the actor said that he hadn’t ever heard of the shelf companies that have been allegedly listed under him and have figured in the leaked list. The actor was quoted as saying by ANI, “(I) Don’t know any of companies referred to by media and I have never been a director of any of those companies. It is possible that my name has been misused.I’ve paid all my taxes including on monies spent by me overseas.” Also Read: Panama Papers scandal sparks chorus of denials

“Monies that I’ve remitted overseas have been in compliance with law, including remittances through LRS, after paying Indian taxes”, the Piku actor added. The papers have also named several Indian and International biggies in the list , including Russian President Vladimir Putin, relatives of Chinese leader Xi Jinping, Iceland’s Prime Minister Sigmundur David Gunnlaugsson and Football club player and international sports megastar Lionel Messi.
