New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party’s exile of 27 years in Delhi came to an end on Saturday after the saffron camp stormed back to power. BJP won 48 seats out of 70, whereas the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) managed to win only 22 seats, witnessing a dip of 40 seats compared to 2019 Assembly polls. Meanwhile, the grand-old-party Congress again failed to open its account in the national capital. While most of the top leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party failed to retain their seats, one constituency that shocked the entire nation was ‘New Delhi’, where AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal suffered a massive defeat, paving the way for Parvesh Verma to emerge as the BJP’s ‘king slayer’ who trounced the AAP supremo.
Verma, a former 2-time Lok Sabha MP from the West Delhi constituency, secured a total of 30,088 votes, against Kejriwal’s tally of 25,999 votes, defeating the AAP chief by a margin 4,089 votes, according to updated results shared by the Election Commission. Although the Delhi Assembly elections have no direct connection to Madhya Pradesh, the victory of BJP candidate Parvesh Verma from the New Delhi seat has created an atmosphere of excitement in the city of Dhar.
BJP MLA from Dhar, Neena Verma, is the mother-in-law of Parvesh Verma. In 2022, Verma married Neena Verma’s eldest daughter, Rinku aka Swati. Soon after Verma registered an incredible victory from the ‘New Delhi’ seat, BJP workers gathered at Neena Verma’s residence to celebrate. The celebrations included fireworks, drum beats, and the distribution of sweets.
While talking to the media, BJP Mandal President Vishal Nigam said that Parvesh Verma has been actively involved in campaigning for Neena Verma’s elections. He has a very good relationship with many BJP workers in Dhar. A large number of workers from Dhar traveled to Delhi to participate in the campaign.
It is important to note that Parvesh Verma is the son of former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma. His wife, Swati Verma, hails from a political family in Dhar, Madhya Pradesh.
Parvesh Verma hails from a noted political family. He was born in 1977, and is the son of veteran BJP leader and former Delhi chief minister Sahib Singh Verma, who passed away in 2007. Parvesh’s uncle, Azad Singh, is a former mayor of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation mayor and had unsuccessfully contested from Mundka assembly constituency on a BJP ticket in the 2013 Delhi polls.
