Pathankot Terror Attack: Indian Army prepared to tackle any security threat, says chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag

The Army Chief said it was due to the coordinated efforts of the security forces that no casualties took place after the initial damage was done.

New Delhi, January 13: The Indian Army chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag on Wednesday that Pathankot was a successful and coordinated operation in which all the security forces worked under the Pathankot Western Army Commander. He said that Pathankot was a difficult operation and the decision to stop operation can only be taken by the security forces who are at the scene. Singh assured that Indian Army prepared to tackle any security threat and there is no need to worry.

Briefing the media for the first time after the Pathankot Air Base was attacked in the first week of January, Singh said that it was due to the coordinated efforts of the security forces that no casualties took place after the initial damage was done. He said, “Area of contact had to be contained so that no one escaped. It is deliberate to avoid casualties.” He also assured that people of India need not to be afraid till there the security is in the hands of Indian Army. Singh said, “I assure the nation that your Army is highly motivated and ready to respond to any threats to our national security.” The Army General said that during the operation, no casualties took place and it was due to the Indian forces’ coordinated efforts. Singh expressed his concern on the increasing security threats and said that Indian Army is working in this direction.

Expressing his deep sorrows for the martyrs, he said the nation salutes to those brave martyrs who sacrificed their life for the country. When asked on the government’s decision to handle the operation to NSG, Singh said, “NSG is the best force to deal with hostage situation and it was a good decision.” (ALSO READ: 15 killed in bomb blast outside polio centre in Pakistan)

At last he thanked the media for covering the operation in the desired manner. Singh said that all Army Commanders have been told to do security audit and submit the report soon. On ending note, he said that Indian Army is on its way to modernise its weapons and a new Army Design Bureau is being set up. But he was seen concerned on the increasing cyber security threat. However, he assured that Indian forces are working on it.
