Kannur, Feb 17: Chaos prevailed in Supreme Court on Wednesday after lawyer Prashant Bhushan was intercepted during the hearing by lawyers present inside. The lawyer not only shouted at Bhushan, but also raised loud slogans of Vande Mataram.
The apex court bench led by Chief Justice T S Thakur was hearing the petition challenging the inaction adopted by Delhi Police outside the premises of Patiala House Court on Monday where media persons and journalists were assaulted by lawyers and right-wing activists. One of the lawyers caught assaulting journalists, Rajeev Tadac, was present during the hearing. (ALSO READ: Plea in Supreme Court for safe atmosphere at Patiala House court)
As Prashant Bhushan began articulating the prosecution’s stand, Tadac interrupted the court and shouted “Vande Mataram.” Judge subsequently replied saying, “Is this what happens in top court?”

However, subsequently, Tadac sought forgiveness from the bench for his actions. Court agreed to pardon him with a strict warning. Although, the prosecution failed to ensure punishment to Tadac, the bench issued certain guidelines to be enacted during the hearing of JNU sedition related cases. “Only limited number of lawyers, who are related to the case, will be present during the hearing. The number of journalists assembling outside the court would also be restricted.”
