New Delhi, July 2: In a bitter attack on former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, senior leader Imran Ansari called for a change in leadership of the party and accused the PDP chief of the split with the BJP. Ansari also said that “incompetent” Mehbooba Mufti not only failed the PDP as the party but also failed to run the government efficiently.
Ansari said that he had “always told her that she was surrounded by sycophants who are destroying the party and giving her wrong advice” but “she never listened to me because she was busy giving remote control of highly sensitive institutions like the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) to a relative who was running the institute from London”.
According to PTI, Ansari has now distanced himself from the party. He, a report said, is not looking to resign from the post of MLA. Ansari called Mufti incompetent and said that huge amount of funds were released for the state, but they weren’t used properly. Earlier his uncle and PDP MLA Abid Ansari had said that Mufti has converted the party into a “family fiefdom”.
Last month, the BJP pulled out of the PDP-led Jammu and Kashmir government citing growing terror activities and radicalisation in the valley making its continuance “untenable”. The move came less than a year ahead of the 2019 general elections and a couple of months after the BJP had replaced its Deputy Chief Minister in the wake of outrage over Kathua rape incident.
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the BJP formed a coalition more than two months after the December 2014 elections returned a hung verdict, in which the PDP got 28 seats and the BJP 25, while the National Conference with 15 and Congress managed to win 12 in a House of 89. The government came to power on March 1, 2015.
