Oil minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Wednesday vowed to not let the petrol and diesel prices go up so that they get out of a common person’s reach.

Pradhan further criticised the geopolitics of oil, exchange rate fluctuations and the high local taxes for petrol. The minister, however, added that a single solution cannot solve the diverse economic needs of the state. “We will deal with the issue,” he said. “The government will take a holistic view (of the situation) so that petrol prices do not pinch them. The government will do all that is possible.”

Prices vary from state to state depending on local sales tax or VAT. Delhi has the cheapest price among all metros and most state capitals.
