New Delhi: Amid the growing panic in the wake of coronavirus, the Indian Railways on Sunday announced a relaxation on the time limit of cancellation of trains and extended it from three days to three months. The development comes as several states are imposing a complete lockdown to contain the spread of the viral disease.
Time limit of refunds at counters in case of train cancellations has been extended from existing 3 days to 3 months. No need to rush,” read a statement released by the Indian Railways. The decision has been taken so that people avoid rushing to railway offices just to cancel their existing travel tickets, and implement the much needed ‘social distancing’ in their lives.

As the entire country welcomed a 14-hour curfew urged by Prime Minister Modi in an effort to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus, it was a mere pilot project for a longer shutdown in the coming days.
A total of 23 states in India have imposed a complete lockdown as the death toll rose to 7 and total positive cases reached 360. Further, no passenger train will be running till March 31. The governent has also suspended all local trains, metros and inter-state transport till March 31 to contain a further spread of the contagious infection.
