New Delhi, June 11: Shiv Sena has made a veiled attack at the BJP again, claiming that the plot to assassinate Prime Minister Modi and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis seemed like a “thrilling horror story”. In its mouthpiece Saamana, Shiv Sena said on Monday that such information surfaces ahead of elections. (Also read: Rajnath Singh Says Modi’s Security Top Priority)

While wishing both PM Modi and CM Fadnavis a long life, the party said it was maybe time for the leader to be given security like that by Israeli intelligence agency Mossad. Sena’s comments come on the heels of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress which had called the threat letter a gimmick, a tactic to build support for Modi. Sena said, “The revelation by the agencies of threat to Fadnavis is nothing less than a thrilling plot of a horror story… It is okay if lakhs are killed, but the saviour of lakhs has to live.” It said that the trend of ‘exposing’ such news ahead of elections is worrisome. “The matter is being politicised and this is condemnable,” the editorial read.

A letter purportedly discussing a plot to assassinate PM Modi on the lines of former PM Rajiv Gandhi’s killing created a furore in the country this past Friday.  The letter was recovered from the house of one of the five people arrested over Maoist “links”. It talks about the ultras mulling “another Rajiv Gandhi type incident” to end the Modi regime at the Centre, Pune police had told a court. Police arrested Dalit activist Sudhir Dhawale, lawyer Surendra Gadling, activists Mahesh Raut and Shoma Sen and Rona Wilson from Mumbai, Nagpur and Delhi, respectively, in connection with the Bhima-Koregaon violence in the district. ANI had reported that the letter also discussed an attack on Fadnavis’ family.
