New Delhi, May 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the first phase of Delhi-Meerut Expressway. Soon after the inauguration, the PM began his road show in an open jeep on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway alongside Union Minister for Road, Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari.
Later in the day, he is scheduled to fly to Baghpat where he will inaugurate the country’s first and smart green expressway, Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE) built at an estimated Rs. 11, 000 crore rupees.

The 135-km-long Eastern Peripheral Expressway which has been built over the period of 17 months originates at Kundli and ends at Palwal. According to the statement issued by the Haryana Government, the construction of Kundli-Palwal expressway would relieve traffic congestion from Delhi. “It is the country’s first Axis Control Highway and the vehicles would have to pay toll equivalent to their travel,” it said. The arrangement of rainwater harvesting has been done on both sides of the expressway.
“Solar energy too has been used. A replica of 36 monuments like India Gate, Gateway of India, Ashoka Stambha, showcasing the art and culture of the country has been established. A digital art gallery would present the glorious construction story of the KGB expressway,” the release further stated.
