The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, on Saturday inaugurated the new terminal building of Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport in Guwahati. The new terminal is the largest airport terminal in the northeast and is a major infrastructural development for Assam. It will largely improve the air connectivity, tourism, and economic activity in the region. The cost of building the terminal is Rs. 4,000 crore, and it can handle more than 13 million passengers every year.

The newly inaugurated airport terminal in Guwahati by Prime Minister Modi is the largest one in the region of northeast India. The airport has been made on land across 1,40,000 square meters and can handle more than 13 million passengers annually. The officials stated that the terminal will help ease the congestion and improve the experience of passengers.

cost of project and facilities

The newly inaugurated terminal building has been constructed at a gigantic cost of Rs. 4,000 crores. The cost of the total projects, as reported by PTI, is Rs. 5,000 crores, with Rs. 1,000 crore already attributed to maintenance, repair, and overhaul facilities-related work. These amenities are most likely to build the aviation sector in the region stronger and decrease the dependency on external repair hubs.

What did PM Modi say?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that he will be paying floral tributes at the Shaheed Smarak Sthal. He added, “After that, I will be present in Namrup, Dibrugarh, for the ground breaking ceremony of the Ammonia-Urea Fertilizer Project of Assam Valley Fertilizer and Chemical Company Limited. This is an important project, which will help meet the fertilizer needs of Assam as well as other states. At the same time, it will reduce imports, as a result of which self-reliance will increase.”
