Malaysia, Nov 22: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the statue of revered Indian intellectual Swami Vivekananda in the Malaysian town of Petaling Jaya. Calling Vivekananda as the aatma (soul) of India, Modi paid floral tributes to the saffron icon. Modi elaborated on the impact Vivekananda had on his public and personal life. Addressing a gathering assembled to honour Vivekananda, the Indian Prime Minister said, “Vivekananda is not just an individual’s name, he represents thousand year old Indian civilisation and culture. Swami Vivekananda is not the name of a person. It is about the aatma of India. Modi described that the journey of Vivekananda was not to search for a religion, but the truth. “If we are able to maintain the true identity of who we are, then we will be able to instill values of Swami Vivekananda in ourselves. He dedicated his entire life to truth. Swami Vivekananda used to say that service of humanity is service of God ,” he added. “It was Swami Vivekananda who first gave the concept of One Asia that ASEAN is speaking of today,” Modi said further adding that Vivekananda was the one who ignited the spirit of independence. “At the time of colonial rule, nobody could visualize Independence. He said, ‘I can clearly see our Mother India free & independent.”
