PM Modi Pays Tribute to India’s Former PM Indira Gandhi on Her 101st Birth Anniversary; Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Former PM Manmohan Singh Offer Floral Tribute

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday paid tribute to former prime minister Indira Gandhi on her 101st birth anniversary. Prime Minister Modi took to twitter and said, “Tributes to India’s former Prime Minister, Mrs. Indira Gandhi Ji on her birth anniversary.”

On the occasion, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Manmohan Singh, Pranab Mukherjee, Hamid Ansari and several Congress workers have also paid floral tributes to the ‘Iron Lady of India’ Indira Gandhi at Shakti Sthal in Delhi.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi tweeted a picture of Indira Gandhi with her quote, “Forgiveness is a virtue of the brave.”

The Congress stated in a tweet that Indira Gandhi, the first woman to lead the nation, was a force of nature. “She led with strength, confidence & grace, she stood for what she believed in & followed her convictions. Today we honour the Iron Lady on her birth anniversary.”

Indira Gandhi, who served as the Prime Minister of India for nearly seventeen years was born on 19 November 1917. Born to India’s first prime minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Kamala Nehru, Indira Gandhi was the country’s prime minister for three terms from January 1966 to March 1977 and January 1980 till her death on 31st October 1984. She was shot down by two of her bodyguards in 1984 at Safdarjung road in Delhi.
