Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for the strictest action against those responsible for paper leaks, saying that stopping such incidents is a national responsibility. Speaking after the NDA Parliamentary Party's 'Mangal Milan' meeting on Tuesday, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said the Prime Minister stressed the need to create a strong and foolproof examination system through collective efforts.
According to Rijiju, PM Modi also urged NDA allies to stay united in supporting legislative work in Parliament. He appealed to opposition parties to cooperate on important issues, saying that while political differences are natural, all MPs share the responsibility of working for the country's future and protecting the interests of its youth.
Rijiju informed that he Prime Minister also said the government has taken stringent measures to prevent such paper leaks in the future. He added that those found involved in the alleged paper leak racket have been arrested and sent to jail.
On the NEET examination, the Prime Minister said that the government acted immediately after reports of the paper leak surfaced, and 13 people were arrested and sent to jail. At the same time, to ensure that students' future was not affected, the NEET re-examination was given priority, conducted successfully, and the results were declared without delay. The Prime Minister also said that strict steps have been taken to prevent such paper leaks in the future. Those found involved in the paper leak racket have been arrested and jailed. He appealed that they should be given the strictest possible punishment, with the support of the country's top lawyers, so that those involved in such a grave offence face exemplary action and such incidents do not recur."
NEET paper leak update
The Supreme Court is set to hear a group of petitions related to the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak case, with petitioners demanding the dissolution of the National Testing Agency (NTA) and a CBI investigation into the alleged leak.
The controversy began after the NTA released the provisional answer key on May 6. Soon after, students and coaching institutes claimed that a "guess paper" circulating before the exam closely matched the actual question paper. Investigators later alleged that a handwritten set of questions had been shared before the test, especially in Rajasthan.
Amid growing concerns over the fairness of the exam, NEET-UG 2026 was cancelled on May 12.
The NTA later referred suspected malpractice cases from Rajasthan and Uttarakhand to central agencies. Rajasthan Police claimed that more than 400 questions had been leaked before the exam, with 135 questions allegedly matching the final paper. The investigation has led to several arrests, and many suspects have been questioned.
After the exam was cancelled, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced a fresh NEET-UG examination, which was held on June 21. The NTA later declared the results, with 11.21 lakh candidates qualifying for admission to undergraduate medical, dental, AYUSH and other allied courses across India.
