New Delhi: Joining the general public, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s nonagenarian mother Heeraben Modi on Sunday night lit up an earthen lamp after turning off all lights at her residence. She also joined everyone in the collective fight against the deadly coronavirus that has claimed over 83 lives in the country so far.

On Sunday, the whole country switched off all the lights for 9 minutes at 9 PM and just lit a candle, ‘diya’, or flashlight, to mark India’s fight against coronavirus as per PM Modi’s appeal.
PM Modi’s mother, on Tuesday had donated Rs 25,000 from her personal savings in a special fund set up to fight the coronavirus pandemic in the country
She had deposited the money in the PM-CARES Fund, which was created by the Centre to help in efforts to contain the spread of the virus and provide relief to those affected by COVID-19.
At present, Heeraben Modi lives with Pankaj Modi, PM Modi’s younger brother, at Raysan village near Gandhinagar.
Known as PM-CARES Fund, the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund was set up to raise money to deal with any emergency situation due to COVID-19 and provide relief to the affected and needy.
