Chennai: DMK president MK Stalin on Wednesday stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government and Edappadi K Palaniswami-led AIADMK government in Tamil Nadu will be dethroned in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

On Tuesday, MK Stalin released DMK party’s manifesto for the Lok Sabha polls and the by-elections in 18 assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu. During a public meeting in Tiruvarur, MK Stalin announced that a Secular Progressive Alliance based on ideological unity had been constituted. This alliance would continue to remain even after the elections, added Stalin.

Stalin claimed that he had launched his political campaign in Tiruvarur as the place was the favourite of late DMK patriarch and former Tiruvarur MLA M Karunanidhi. He reportedly said, “Just like New Delhi is the capital of India and Chennai is the capital of Tamil Nadu, Tiruvarur is the capital of the DMK. Getting greetings from Tiruvarur people is like from Kalaignar (Karunanidhi) himself.”

Further, Stalin has accused the BJP government of failing to fulfil the promises made during the previous election. MK Stalin also criticised the ruling AIADMK’s alliance with PMK. However, Tamil Nadu Minister RB Udayakumar on Wednesday dismissed Stalin’s charge that the electoral pact for Lok Sabha polls was made ‘only for money’ and asserted that the AIADMK and PMK came together for people’s welfare and the general public in the state welcomed the ‘winning’ combination.
