Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Rajghat to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary. Today on Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary, the Congress party converged at the historic Sevagram Ashram in Wardha in Maharashtra sending indications of launching the 2019 Lok Sabha election campaign. The Congress leaders are also expected to pay tribute to the Father of the Nation at the Bapu Kutir in the Sevagram Ashram in Nagpur and attend a prayer meeting and then hold a special Congress Working Committee meeting at the nearby Mahadev Bhavan. The Congress chief will also garland a statue of Mahatma Gandhi near the District Collectorate, take out a foot march (padyatra) and address a rally at the Circus Ground in the town.
On the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, President Ram Nath Kovind on Monday said Mahatma Gandhi will be the guiding light in India’s pursuit to eradicate poverty and achieve rapid social and economic progress. “The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is a true tribute to Gandhiji, who espoused cleanliness as an essential element of healthy living,” Kovind said.
