New Delhi, Jul 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is addressing the Kisan Kalyan rally in Punjab’s Malout. The rally has been organised by the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Malout in Mukhtsar and is going to address the issue of recent hike in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Kharif crops. PM Modi had also tweeted for the same saying that he is looking forward for today’s rally. The government had announced a hike in the MSP of Kharif crops in order to fulfill poll promise of providing farmers 50 per cent more than the cost of production. Security has been tightened ahead of the PM’s rally, said Punjab Director General of Police (Law & Order) HS Dhillon. ADGP (Provisioning) Arpit Shukla, IG (Ferozepur Range) Gurinder Singh Dhillon, IG (Bathinda Range) MF Farooqui, IG (Patiala Range) AS Rai and IG (IRB) AS Chahal have been given duties accordingly. The security arrangements have been taken care of by Punjab DGP Suresh Arora and DGP (Intelligence) Dinkar Gupta in Dhillon. Dhillon said that farmers from Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan would attend the rally.
According to SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal, farmers will appreciate the step taken by the government.
