New Delhi, Nov 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the 38th session of his monthly programme Mann Ki Baat, lauded an 8-year-old boy from Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh for his contribution in Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Campaign) and making his village open-defecation free (ODF).

In his address, the PM, while speaking about the Swacch Bharat Abhiyan said,”You would be astonished on knowing that an 8-year-old boy in Madhya Pradesh is working tirelessly to make his village open-defecation free (Aapko bhi sun karke aashcharya hoga ki Madhya Pradesh ke ek 8 varshiye balak Tushar ne apne gaon ko khule mein shaauch se mukt karaane ka beeda utha liya hai).”

Tushar belongs to Kumhari village of Balaghat district and suffers from speech and hearing impairment since birth. Belaying his age and impairment, he started a campaign against ODF in his village. Everyday, in a bid to educate the villagers about the cons of open defecation, he used to get up at 5 AM and visit their homes. With hand gesture, he would ask the villagers not to defecate in the open. This is a practice which he even follows today and makes sure that he preaches his message to each household in the village before going to school.

Each day, Tushar covers 30-40 houses and then, goes around the village to catch the defaulters. He uses a whistle to stop people from defecating in the open. Today, with such pure efforts, this little boy has been able to make Kumhari village each open-defecation free title.
