Jerusalem, July 5: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address the Indians in Israel today. Elaborate celebrations have been planned at the Tel Aviv Convention Center in Israel for Modi’s community event address. Earlier in the day, Modi also held talks with Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and also met Israel President Reuven Rivlin. Here are Live updates from PM Modi’s address to Indian community at the Tel Aviv Convention Center:
12:02 am: All Indians residing in Isarel will be provided with OCI cards easily, the PM said. In a bid to improve cultural ties, he said, very soon Indian Government will set up an Indian Cultural Centre in Israel. He also welcomed the Israeli youth in large numbers to India to facilitate exchange of cultural and traditional traits. He said that he is sure that the Indian experience will always be remembered by the Israelis who shall arrive in India.
11:58 pm:Indian PM talks about how India in its innovation regarding agriculture can help and be helped by Israel. Science, Innovation and Research will be the main aspects in which India and Israel will base their partnership in. He said how they also discussed on the issue of Terrorism and ways to tackle it and met with Moshe, the youngest survivor of the Mumbai attacks.
11:48 pm: According to PM Modi, the more women will be empowered in India, the stronger India will grow. He said in order to strengthen women, hence Indian government has stated that various developmental policies have been taken. He stated how maternity leave has been increased by his Government.
11:35 pm: Modi talks about various reforms his Government has undertaken in India in fields of Defence, technology and law and order. He narrated his dream of making India a fully developed nation, where every citizen will have a house, with electricity and food and respect to live with by 2022. He also said how the banking systems have been reformed for the welfare of the people. Adding that each step his government takes is towards easing the hardship of maximum people. India’s ability to provide registration to companies in terms of starting up any business or developing skills have been facilitated by his government he said. ‘India is a young country and hence its dreams are young as well’, he said. He said how Skill Development Department, for the first time has been initiated as a separate department of the Government to focus exclusively in guiding the youth, keeping in mind the latest developments in global level.
11:30 pm: Prime Minister is now talking about the rolling out of GST in India and said how it will take away the worries of people who were under several different taxes until July 1. He said he calls the Goods and Services Tax as Good and Simple Tax, because it has simplified India’s tax system. He drew comparison how during independence Sardar Vallabhai Patel physically and geographically unified the nation and how GST has economically unified the nation in a similar way.
11:24 pm: The Indian Prime Minister says that the role of the Indian diaspora in Israel’s rise has been immense. Similarly, several Jewish Indian nationals have helped in the development of Israel, in a way making the ties between the two countries stronger. He also said that in the last few decades, Israel has stunned the world with its innovations, be that in terms of solar energy, security, or technology, Israel has established itself as a fast growing country. Modi also called Israel a ‘Start-Up nation’ and said his mantra for change is ‘Reform, Perform and Transform’.
11:20 pm: Modi says although Jewish people have resided in India in minorities, but with their will power and determination, they have been able to mark their unique cultural richness, whether that be in literature or art. In 1938, Mumbai, then known as Bombay, there was a Jewish mayor in the city. He also stated how the signature tune of All India Radio was actually composed by Walter Kauffman, who was a Jewish composer.
11:15 pm: PM Modi draws comparison between him and PM Netanyahu. Says the prime similarity is that both of them were born post independence of their respective countries. He also drew comparison between the two countries and their culture. “When India celebrates Diwali, Israel celebrates Hanukah”, he said. He also wished luck to all sportsperson who will take part in the games that begins tomorrow.
11:09 pm: PM Modi begins his address. Starts with saying that first time in 70 years an Indian Prime Minister has arrived at Israel. ‘It is human nature that when you meet a close one after years, they ask about each others fairing state.’ Hence he asked all the people in Israel how they are just like anyone would do their close relatives. Today is the day, he said, that the PM of India is asking for the blessings of the people in Israel for the first time in 70 years. The respect PM Netanyahu has expressed, he said, is respect shown to the billions of Indians.
11:00 pm: Programme begins with the singing of the national anthem of both India and Israel. Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu addresses crowd and welcomes Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Says India and Israel shared an old friendship and partnership. PM Netanyahu explains how PM Modi and he has decided to strengthen the partnership. He added that the countries are building a future at this moment in the world.
10:37 pm: Indians are thronging the Tel Aviv Convention Center to welcome Prime Minister Modi. They are carrying banners and chanting slogans. “I’m really excited to see Indian PM, hope they have great business and relationship,” says Jennifer, an attendee at the Community event.
9:59 pm: A cultural programme is on at the Tel Aviv Convention Center ahead of Modi’s address. Indian singer Sukhwinder Singh is also performing among other artists.

Earlier in the day, Modi also met Holtzberg Moshe, the Israeli child who survived the deadly 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks of 2008. Modi invited him to India and also told him that his family will get an extended visa to India. Moshe gifted Modi a collage and said, “Dear Mr Modi, I love you and your people in India.” Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was also present at the meeting between Modi and Moshe. Netanyahu told Moshe, “PM Modi invited me to India and you will come with me.”
Modi also held delegation level talks with Netanyahu, during which seven agreements were signed between India and Israel. MoUs were signed on: Cooperation in Electric Propulsion for small satellites, plan of cooperation regarding cooperation in Atomic clocks, save water utility reform in India, water conservation in India, cooperation in GEO-LEO Optical Link, India-Israel Development Cooperation, along with the setting up India-Israel Industrial R&D and Technological Innovation Fund.
Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister Modi also held talks with Israeli President Reuven Rivlin. The two leaders discussed a range of issues, including the global economy, stability and unrest in West Asia.
Modi arrived in Israel on Tuesday to a grand welcome by the Israel Prime Minister and his ministers. Netanyahu welcomes Modi with a Hindi sentence, saying, “Aapka swagat ahi mere dost (Welcome to Israel, my friend)”. Modi is the first Indian Prime Minister to have visited Israel. He will wrap up his visit tomorrow and will leave for Germany for the G20 Summit.
