New Delhi: The Modi government has changed the name of the PMO, or Prime Minister’s Office. The new Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) complex will be named ‘Seva Teerth’.

Construction of the new PMO is in its final stages

Officials said that the complex, being built as part of the Central Vista redevelopment project, is in its final stages. It was previously known as the ‘Executive Enclave’. In addition to the Prime Minister’s Office, the complex under construction will also include the Cabinet Secretariat, the National Security Council Secretariat, and the offices of ‘India House,’ which will be the venue for high-level talks with visiting dignitaries.

Why Seva Tirtha from the PMO

Officials explained that ‘Seva Tirtha’ will be a workplace designed to reflect the spirit of service and where national priorities will be embodied. They said that India’s public institutions are undergoing a quiet but profound transformation. According to officials, the concept of governance is shifting from ‘power’ to ‘service’ and from authority to accountability. They said this change is not just administrative, but also cultural and moral.

Raj Bhavans also renamed

Raj Bhavans, the official residences of state governors, are also being renamed ‘Lok Bhavans.’ Officials said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, areas of governance have been redesigned to reflect ‘duty’ and transparency.

He said, “Every name, every building, and every symbol now points to one simple idea: the government is for service.”

PM’s official residence

The Prime Minister’s official residence was renamed Lok Kalyan Marg in 2016. According to officials, this name connotes welfare, not exclusivity, and serves as a reminder of the future work of every elected government. The Central Secretariat, a sprawling administrative center, is named Kartavya Bhavan, built around the idea that public service is a commitment. Officials said, “These changes symbolize a profound ideological shift. Indian democracy is choosing responsibility over power, service over position.” They added, “The change in names also represents a shift in mindset. Today, they speak the language of service, duty, and citizen-first governance.”
