Mumbai, January 26: Samajwadi Party youth leader and party state president Abu Azmi’s son from Mumbai Farhan Azmi has made a controversial remark at a public meeting this week. Farhan Azmi a famous restaurateur and husband of Bollywood actress Aisha Takia said, ‘different political parties have used Muslims as condoms’. Soon after the controversial comment the youth leader faced heavy criticism from Muslim leaders and called it an irresponsible and offensive remark and have sought an apology. The comment was made by Farhan Azmi on Sunday at Nagpada junction, Mumbai where the hotelier was addressing a public rally with his father Abu Azmi for the upcoming BMC elections in Mumbai. Haider Azam, a senior politician from Mumbai and BJP city unit vice president said, “Farhan Azmi insulted whole community with his reference to condoms”. He further said that, “there are several issues which needs to be highlighted but if Farhan doesn’t apologise then the BJP minority will agitate outside his house”. Farhan Azmi accepted to Times of India, that he used the term as a metaphor to explain the plight of the community. He said, “What is upsetting is we are not addressing issues of Muslims, their women and youth”.

Many senior politicians alleged that by using “a crude metaphor,” Azmi showed his party’s mindset. Waris Pathan, AIMIM MLA from Byculla reportedly said, “Farhan has insulted the community and he must apologise for it”.

Many other Muslim leaders, who were angry with the ‘remark’ said that they will march to Farhan’s residence in Colaba soon.
