New Delhi: The United States President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump are all set and “excited” for their visit to India. In a tweet, Melania Trump said that her maiden trip will be an occasion to celebrate the close ties between the two countries.

“Thank you @narendramodi for the kind invitation. Looking forward to visiting Ahmedabad & New Dehli later this month. @POTUS & I are excited for the trip & to celebrate the close ties between the USA & India,” she tweeted replying to Prime Minister Modi.

Donald and Melania Trump will be arriving in India for a two-day visit on February 24 and begin their tour with a grand event called ‘Kem Chho, Trump’ at Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad, in PM Modi’s home state of Gujarat. The event is deemed an equivalent of the ‘Howdy Modi’ mega-event in September last year.

Preparations have already started and a thorough security check was conducted at the Sabarmati Ashram for Trump’s visit. The US President, along with PM Modi, will participate in a roadshow in Ahmedabad and then visit Sabarmati Ashram to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.

The roadshow has been planned along the 10 km well-lit and decorated stretch between Ahmedabad airport and the Ashram.

Trump and his First Lady will travel to New Delhi and then to Ahmedabad, a city that has “played such an important role in Mahatma Gandhi’s life and leadership of the Indian independence movement,” the White House said in a statement on Monday.

Prior to Donald Trump, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, as well as Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu, had been given a grand welcome in Ahmedabad during their visits to the country between 2014 and 2018.
