A rock star, a migrant worker, a doctor and a cop—four different lives connect in Abhishek Chaubey’s new film, “Udta Punjab.” The film, starring Karena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Shahid Kapoor and Diljit Dosanjh, takes on drug abuse among youth in India—specifically in Punjab. Also Read - Shilpa Shetty's New Haircut Has Split The Internet. The trailer for “Udta Punjab” was released on April 16, and has been received with love and praise. The film follows a drug-addicted rock star, Tommy Singh, played by Shahid Kapoor. The “Shaandaar” actor takes on a wild-child look with long hair, tattoo’s and piercings—something different than we’ve ever seen him portray before. “Tommy Singh is the scariest character that I have ever played because I don’t even drink alcohol, so I don’t even know what it is like to be high,” Kapoor said of his unique role in the film. “So, I really have no idea what somebody is going through. I had no idea how I am going to do it. But I felt like it was a challenge that I needed to take up.” Also Read - Mahima Chaudhry Says 'They Only Wanted a Virgin' in Movies But Things Have Changed For Women Now

It looks as though we may see the same chemistry as “Shaandaar,” with Bhatt and Kapoor reuniting in this film. Bhatt plays Kumari Pinky, a simple migrant worker slaving through a hard life. Kareena Kapoor Khan plays a Dr. Preet Sahani, who is working hard to crack down on the selling of new drugs in the state of Punjab. Kapoor Khan is joined by a cop—Sartaj Singh Dhillon, played by the popular singer and actor, Diljit Dosanjh—in her efforts to catch illegal transportation of drugs.

From the first second of the trailer, it is clear that “Udta Punjab” is going to be a ‘hatke‘ type of film—everything from the profanity and the laugh out loud one-liners to the criticism of serious issues in the state of Punjab makes this film a must-watch.

Singers, producers, television favorites, Bollywood stars and more have all come out in full force support for this awesome new trailer. From Hrithik Roshan and Karan Johar, to Karan Tacker and Chetan Bhagat, everyone only has praise for the new trailer.

The film shows the world another side of Punjab, not just fields of dupatta-touting ladies and turban clad men romancing girls on bikes. Hopefully the film, like the trailer, doesn’t fall prey to cliche’s and instead reveals the truth behind the issues of Punjab.

Produced by Balaji Motion Pictures in association with Phantom Pictures, the Abhishek Chaubey directorial is all set to release on June 17.
