Mumbai, April 21: Days after report surfaced that Pratyusha Banerjee, who allegedly committed suicide on April 1, was pregnant and had undergone abortion shortly before her death, her fiance Rahul Raj Singh claimed that the couple mutually decided to terminate the pregnancy. “After she told me that she had missed her periods, we went to the doctor for the pregnancy test. However, we mutually decided to abort it since we were not married and only living in together,” Rahul Raj Singh told a leading daily. “We decided to terminate the pregnancy thinking about our future as we were planning to get married in November. The post-mortem reports may have come out the very next day. Why are they talking about it now?” he added. Rahul Raj Singh has been giving conflicting versions to the police and to the media. While he told investigators that he was aware of Pratyusha’s pregnancy and had accompanied her to the gynaecologist, Rahul earlier told press outside the Bangur Nagar police station that Pratyusha was not pregnant. The 24-year-old “Balika Badhu” fame actress was found hanging at her residence in Goregaon on April 1. On the basis of a complaint filed by her mother, Pratyusha’s fiance Rahul Raj Singh was booked under IPC Sections related to abetment of suicide, criminal intimidation and voluntarily causing hurt. Rahul underwent treatment for alleged depression at a hospital in Borivali for nearly two weeks since April 3.
