New Delhi, Jan 25: President Pranab Mukerjee on Wednesday addressed the nation on the eve of the 68th Republic Day which will be celebrated on Thursday. the President addressed the nation on live television and radio as the country is all set to celebrate the Republic day on Thursday. The President in his address talked about the journey of India since the constitution was finally adopted and its importance. He greeted the Indians in the country and abroad. Key highlights of President Pranab Mukherjee’s address to the nation on the eve of 68th Republic day

1.The President began the speech by greeting the Indians on the eve of Republic day. He reiterated the journey of the constitution which has enabled ensured stability in India for almost 6 decades. this he said is the contribution of our forefathers.

2. Providing development statistics, the President said that the poverty rate in India since the nation was found has dropped 2/3rd.

3. He attributed the development in the nation to the changes in science and technology and said that would be the prime goal of the nation as it goes forward.

4. Adding more to the development statistics he said that the Indian economy is performing considerably well despite the challenges in the global level. According to him, India has maintained and managed stability in the domestic market.

5. Talking about the demonetisation move, he said, the move has helped in curbing and initiating a war against black money. He also said demonetisation has also led to the establishment of a cashless economy, which has endured transparency in transactions.

6. He then addressed those born in Independent India and reminded how the freedom we enjoy was won and said that people sometimes forget that freedom needs care and nurturing.

7. He also reiterated the point of rights and duties and said we have a duty towards the nation as much as we have rights.

8. Mukherjee quoted Mahatma Gandhi and said “The highest form of freedom carries with it the greatest measure of discipline and humility.”

9.Then he further said that we all must carry on with the qualities of parental guidance, true social behaviour.

10. Stating the objective of the Government in peace and war is to maintain the happiness, which is the fundamental for social welfare.

11. He talked of Sustainable development and talked of how happiness and well-being are part of public policy.

12. Talking about the various policies of the government which aims to fulfill the objective of social equality and well being he mentioned Swachh Bharat, MGNREGA, the Digital India campaign, Startup India, National Skill Development Mission.

13. Emphasising the importance of Digital India campaign, he said it aims and has helped in Digital infrastructure, Digital learning and in the implementation of a cashless economy.

14. The President spoke about India’s plurality and social-cultural-religious diversity and said this is the country’s greatest strength.

15. He further said that tolerance, Patience and respect is imbibed in each Indian.

16. Talking about India as a democracy, he touched upon the issue of recent stalling of parliament proceedings and said that we must collectively bring the focus of all concerned to the idea of debate and discussion.

17. He reminded that the edifice of trust has to be stronger and said we have to work hard on our struggle against poverty.

18. He stated that the war against poverty is not over yet and still 1/5th of the country are under the Below Poverty Line (BPL).

19. He emphasised that we must work hard to ensure better amenities to our farmers, enhance opportunities of employment, improve the spirit of competitiveness and ensure the safety and security of women and children.

20. Touching upon the issue of environmental degradation, he said we must change our consumption pattern to ensure less damage to the environment.

21. About terrorism, he said that terrorist forces must be dealt and they cannot be allowed to grow.

22. The President talked about the various incident of intolerance, when he said India’s pluralism and tolerance is still put to test sometimes by dark forces.

23. He talked of how we are indebted to the soldiers and respect them who stand guard both at the border and in the state to maintain security from external and internal threats.

24. Reaching climax in his speech, he said that we all are equal children in the eyes of our mother, that is India, our motherland.

25. Finally concluding the speech he said that we must maintain unflinching loyalty to the values of the nation.
