New Delhi: As the upcoming Presidential poll is round the corner, it has been reported that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led-National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) candidate is likely to file the nomination on June 23. Sources also claimed that IB Minister Venkaiah Naidu and Home Minister Rajnath Singh briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the election in meeting with senior party leaders.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which has almost 40 per cent voteshare is expected to field Jharkhand governor Draupadi Murmu as the successor of present President Pranab Mukherjee. Many prominent names like LK Advani, Sushma Swaraj, Murli Manohar Joshi, Sumitra Mahajan and Rajinikanth are floating in media but Draupadi Murmu is considered as one of the strongest contenders among all.
According to the political experts, if Draupadi Murmu becomes the next President, she can prove to be a great help for the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in grabbing tribal vote share in upcoming 2019 general elections. Earlier it has been said that National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is expected to announce the name of its Presidential candidate by June 15.
A couple of days ago, BJP President Amit Shah constituted a three-member committee which will consult political parties including the opposition to select a consensus candidate for the presidential poll. The committee, comprising senior union ministers Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley and M Venkaiah Naidu, will hold deliberations with BJP allies and opposition parties for the July 17 presidential election. “The committee’s mandate is to consult leaders of all political parties for the presidential poll and try to evolve a consensus,” a BJP statement said.
The process of filing nominations for the presidential poll began today with the Election Commission issuing a notification in this regard. The nomination process will continue till June 28.
