New Delhi, June 16: On the speculations of being a possible NDA candidate for the next President of India, Metro Man E Sreedharan today said that there’s no reality in it and no discussions have taken place with him regarding the Presidential election 2017. Sreedharan also said that he doesn’t long for the post of President of India.

Earlier, India Today reported sources as saying that there was a strong possibility of the Metro Man being nominated as the NDA Presidential candidate. It also reported that Narendra Modi keeps a safe distance from the people he wants to elevate and this is why his name was excluded by the PMO from the list of people who would be sharing the stage with PM Narendra Modi on the inauguration of the Kochi Metro on June 17. According to the reports, the list received by the Kochi Metro from the PMO didn’t have the names of Sreedharan and opposition leader Ramesh Chennithal.

Bending to the controversy that sparked when E Sreedharan’s name was not included among the shortlisted people, the PMO informed the Kerala CMO that his name has been included in the list of people sharing the dais with Modi along with opposition leader Ramesh Chennithal. While his name was later included in the list following the controversy, Sreedharan had said that he was not disappointed with it since Narendra Modi’s security is the priority.

The rest of the probable candidates are from a political background. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has not suggested any name so far. Party chief Amit Shah had said that the name of the possible candidate for President of India will not be revealed prematurely.

Now that President Pranab Mukherjee is set to retire in July 2017, several names have cropped up including External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, Jharkhand Governor Draupadi Murmu, Union Social Justice Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot and Metro Man E Sreedharan.
