The Presidential Election fight between ruling NDA’s nominee Ram Nath Kovind and opposition’s candidate Meira Kumar was seen as a Dalit vs Dalit contest. Rejecting the claims, Meira Kumar said that the election was not between caste but ideologies. “Great belief in ideology I fought for, also believe in the inner voice of conscience lets see how much it prevails,” said Meira Kumar. For now, the states that have been covered in the first round of counting are Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Bihar. First, the votes in ballot box of Parliament was counted. The counting is being done in alphabetical order. The votes are being counted on four separate tables and the votes will be counted in eight rounds.
Close to 99 per cent voting was recorded on July 17. Before the counting began, the experts and poll pundits predicted a land sliding victory for Ram Nath Kovind. According to the predictions, Ram Nath Kovind is set to win the Presidential Election 2017 with 63 per cent votes in his favour.
