NewDelhi, December 9 : In what turns out to be a remarkable turnaround, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Pakistan for the SAARC summit next year. In the Pakistani Capital Islamabad for Heart of Asia Summit, Swaraj told reporters, that she will accompany PM Modi during his visit to Pakistan in 2016. Narendra Modi will also be the first Prime Minister to visit Pakistan since Atal Bihari Vajpayee to visit the country in 2004 when he was there to attend the SAARC summit.(ALSO READ: Sushma Swaraj: India, Pakistan must display maturity in doing business).
The two prime ministers who also met on the sidelines of the Conference of Parties (CoP-21) climate summit in Paris on November 30 many believe actually set the India- Pakistan relations back on its mending track. At the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit held in Russia,ULFA in July.
Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had earlier invited Modi to attend the SAARC summit next year.Incidentally Modi had even accepted the invitation. After the Ufa meeting, both the prime ministers directed their foreign secretaries to initiate the process of renewing talks, including meetings between the national security advisors of the two countries.

Earlier this week, National Security Advisors (NSAs) Ajit Doval of India and Naseer Khan Janjua of Pakistan had held a meeting in Bangkok which was also attended by Foreign Secretaries S Jaishanker and Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry.
