Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir, Dec 31: In a joint operation between Indian army forces and Jammu Kashmir Police, two terrorists were gunned down in Pulwana on Wednesday. The encounter erupted yesterday in Gasu in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday morning. One of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist was identified as Manzoor Bhat son of Abdul Rashid Bhat, a resident of Aloochibagh area of Kakapora, while the second is of foreign origin and identity id yet to be ascertained.
An official said that the army and SOG of Jammu and Kashmir Police cordoned off Harpura mohalla of Gasu village in the district last evening after specific inputs about the presence of militants. Two AK-47rifles, four magazines and other war-like stores were recovered from the site of the encounter, said the official. Earlier this month in a similar encounter, four terrorists were killed by army men. The operation began after security personnel received information about infiltrators at the border. Security forces had launched an anti-militancy operation in Wadder Bala village of Handwara to hunt the terrorists.
A suspected Naxal leader who was wanted in at least 15 cases of murder and carrying a reward of Rs 10 lakh on his head was killed on Wednesday in an encounter in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, PTI reported. He was killed in an exchange of fire with police in a forest under the Chinturu police station limits of East Godavari district adjoining Chhattisgarh.
