New Delhi, June 8: A day after five persons were arrested  in connection with the Bhima-Koregaon violence, Pune police have seized a letter from one of the accused that hints at a conspiracy to assassinate Prime Minister Narendra Modi in ‘another Rajiv Gandhi-type incident’ by ‘attacking his roadshows’.  The letter mentions attacking PM Modi’s roadshows as it says, “Targeting his road shows could be an effective strategy”. “Comrades proposed concrete steps to end Modi-raj. We are thinking along the lines of another Rajiv Gandhi-type incident. It sounds suicidal and there is a good chance that we might fail but we feel that the party must deliberate over our proposal,” the letter reads. While appearing before the court, public prosecutor Ujjwala Pawar reportedly told the court that the letter found on the laptop of Rona Jacob Wilson mentioned the need of Rs 8 crore to purchase M-4 rifle and four lakh rounds. As per a report, the Pune police have also recovered a pen drive, hard disk and some other documents from the arrested accused’s DDA flat at Munirka in Delhi.

While addressing a news briefing, Pune Joint Commissioner of Police (CP) Ravindra Kadam said,”We were investigating their links and in this connection, we raided houses of some of them. From Rona Wilson’s house, we recovered pen drive, hard disk and some other documents which were sent to forensics. We also got to know Rona Wilson’s and Surendra Gadling’s connection with Naxals. Later, we found their links with the other three people and arrested them accordingly. “Surendra Gadling was presented before the court after he was arrested yesterday morning and we were given his police custody for 8 days,” leading news channel quoted Kadam as saying.

Reacting over the reports, Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam said,”I am not saying this is completely untrue but it has been PM Modi’s old tactic, since he was CM, whenever his popularity declines, news of an assassination plot is planted. So it should be probed how much truth is in it this time.”
