Pune: The protest by differently abled people turned into a face-off with the Pune police on Monday, so much so, that earlier reports said that FIR against 2,000-2,500 people had been filed under various sections of IPC, including rioting, said ANI. However, police later confirmed that no FIR had been filed against the protesters but 7-8 policemen were injured in this protest. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has asked for a detailed report on the police lathi-charge on protesters who were demanding, among other things, employment and setting up of government school and colleges for differently abled people. Reports said the protesters were gathered outside the social welfare department at Pune Camp. Meanwhile, 50-odd activists working for the Maharashtra Deaf and Dumb association were detained as well.

Over 2,500 protesters had gathered outside the office, demanding better employment opportunities and other facilities in government establishments.

The authorities claimed the protesters had not taken prior permission for holding their dharna. The situation escalated when the crowd decided to the area and start a rally on the highways, said a report.
