Punjab: Mining Mafia Goons Rough up AAP MLA For Trying to Expose Them During Facebook Live

New Delhi, June 21: AAP MLA from Ropar Amarjit Singh Sandoa was attacked allegedly by the mining mafia on Thursday morning, said reports. Sandoa was trying to stop illegal mining at vilage Beihara and he was accompanied by his security and some mediapersons when the incident occurred, said a report in The Tribune. A report in news18 said that the whole event was watched by thousands as it occurred while Sandoa was Facebook live.

AAP leader Kultar Singh said that a few days ago he, along with Sandoa, had attended a late-night programme in a village of Nangal division in the district and on their way back they had seen illegal mining going on. He claimed that some villagers had also complained following which MLA Sandoa decided to expose illegal mining there. Singh told The Times of India, “Sandoa had dared to visit the spot and expose the illegal mining in the Beinhara village that is situated on the border of Nangal and Nurpur Bedi divisions. The mining mafia attacked Sandoa and his gunmen following which he faced severe injuries on the head and other body parts. He was rushed to local hospital in Anandpur Sahib from where he was referred for PGI Chandigarh.

Reports suggest that the mafia got an inkling of Sandoa’s intentions and by the time the MLA arrived on the spot, all the machines and vehicles had been removed from there. Then, Sandoa was attacked with wooden planks, iron rods and stones. His gunman was also roughed up. The doctors at the hospital referred Sandoa to the PGI after the latter complained of chest pain.

While Ropar SSP Raj Bachan Singh Sandhu claimed that a probe was on, he also said that police were not informed about the MLA’s raid or they would have assisted him. SHO of Nurpur Bedi, Des Raj told TOI, “The car of MLA was stranded here in the Beinhara village as he abandoned his car after he was allegedly attacked by some people. Near Beinhara village is Harsawela village where mining is being done with the permission of authorities. We are checking whether any mining was being done here in Beinhara village as well. No arrests have been made yet in the case.”
