Punjab: Alleged drug dealer’s limb, foot chopped off; incident filmed on cell phones

Chandigarh, June 9: Residents of a village near Bhatinda city cut hands and chop off legs of a young man whom they suspect to be a drug dealer. Vinod Kumar, the alleged drug dealer, on Thursday, died after he was attacked by some villagers who then sliced his body parts. The horrifying incident was captured on mobile devices by eyewitnesses. A murder case has been registered against anonymous people. case A few months earlier the 25-year-old alleged drug dealer was warned by the villagers to shift his base, reported NDTV.

Highlighting facts about the deceased, Jagdish Kumar, an Inspector told that  Vinod was slapped with cases under  Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and just four days back he was exonerated from prison. Vinod, after going through the heinous act was moved to a nearby local hospital but the boundaries of the hospital were surrounded by furious villagers as they were not happy to see the help being provided to Kumar.

Seeing the chaos, police shifted Kumar to Faridkot, which is about 45 km away from the latter’s native place. Upon reaching the hospital of Faridkot, Kumar was declared dead by the doctors. Villagers said that police did not take any action against Kumar when they had filed a complaint against him of selling drugs.

Punjab has not been successful in eradicating the drug menace from past several years. It has deeply installed in the roots of Punjab which is now attracting the youth. The newly elected Congress government under the leadership of Captain AmarinderSingh has vowed to hammer the drug menace and for this, even a Special Task Force was set up. On May 12, the CM of Punjab urged the central government for help to crack down on the drug being transported into Indian fences from cross the border.
