Punjab Cabinet Expansion: List of Nine Ministers to Take Oath Today

The new ministers are all in the cabinet rank and their portfolios would be announced later.

New Delhi, April 21: In a major development, Captain Amarinder Singh-led Punjab cabinet will be expanded on Saturday. According to reports, nine new faces will be taking oath as ministers. The swearing-in ceremony will take at Raj Bhawan, today at 6pm in Chandigarh.

Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh congratulated the ministers on micro-blogging site.

The names were finalized after discussing with Congress president Rahul Gandhi. The cabinet expansion has been on cards for some time now. The new ministers are all in the cabinet rank and their portfolios would be announced later.

Here’s the list of ministers who will be taking oath today:

  1. Sukhjinder Randhawa
  2. Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria
  3. Bharat Bhushan Ashu
  4. Vijay Inder Singla
  5. Sunder Shyam Arora
  6. Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi
  7. Gurpreet Kangar
  8. Balbir Sidhu
  9. OP Soni

Capt Amarinder held two round of discussion with Rahul Gandhi before announcing the names. Reportedly, there are nine ministers, including Amarinder Singh. With the nine new ministers, the Punjab Government will touch the maximum strength of 15 percent of the state Assembly. Meanwhile, three-time MLA Sangat Singh Gilzian from Urmur has resigned from the party post. He was hopeful of a ministerial berth in the Cabinet.
