Punjab Election Result 2022 Highlights: Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party registered a landslide victory in Punjab today by winning 92 out of 117 Assembly seats. AAP’s Bhagwant Mann is set to be the new Punjab Chief Minister and said he will take oath from Bhagat Singh’s ancestral village instead of Raj Bhawan. Almost all other major contenders of AAP such as former CM Amarinder Singh, Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi, Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, his father Parkash Singh Badal, Sukhbir Badal’s brother-in-law Bikram Majithia and his estranged cousin Manpreet Badal, all faced humiliating defeat from their strongholds. The Congress managed to bag 18 seats and The BJP secured only two seats, while SAD won four seats. The other won one seat. Bhagwant Mann and Arvind Kejriwal both gave their victory speeches separately, making promises of a better Punjab, and their rivals who lost congratulated the party for its clean sweep. Kejriwali congratulates Bhagwant Mann for becoming Punjab CM: “I’d like to congratulate my younger brother Bhagwant Mann for becoming Punjab Chief Minister. AAP has crossed over 90 seats, results are still coming; people have put a lot of faith in us, we won’t break it. We will change this country’s politics,” says AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal.
From Gill seat, AAP candidate Jeewan Singh Sangowal defeated Akali nominee Darshan Singh Shivalik by a margin of 57,644 votes.
Congress candidate and state party working president Sukhwinder Singh Danny was defeated by AAP candidate Harbhajan Singh from Jandiala by a margin of 25,383 votes.
AAP candidate Rajneesh Kumar Dahiya defeated SAD’s Joginder Singh from Ferozepur Rural seat.
