Gurdaspur, March 16: A jilted teenage lover on Wednesday afternoon threw acid on five girl studying at a school at Dera Baba Nanak in Batala area of Punjab. While four girls escaped with minor injuries, the one who had turned down the boy’s proposal, is reported to be admitted at an Amritsar hospital with severe burn injuries.
According to police the incident took place at around 3:30 pm, when the 18-year-old accused along with his friend followed the victim studying in class VIII. The victim was accompanied by her four friends at the time of the incident, police said. The girls were returning home after finishing their final exams. The girl later confronted the accused who use to stalk her and asked her why he is following them. The boy then threw acid on her face and ran away from the spot. In the attack, four of victims friends were also injured.
The victim was rushed to the Dera Baba Nanak civil hospital from where one of the girl was referred for special intensive care at Amritsar hospital.
Daljinder Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police Batala said, that they have formed three teams to nab the accused. “We are questioning his friends. He will be arrested by us soon,” Singh said.
The victim was repeatedly troubled by the girl who even narrated her plight to her family. Recently victim’s grandfather had also warned the boy who in turn vowed to take revenge and finally attacked the girl on Wednesday.
Report suggest that the accused is a class-10 student of same school and was recently rusticated by school principal for “nefarious activities”. The school authorities had also warned the accused to stay away from school premises.
