New Delhi, May 4: Amid rising cases of sexual assault against minor in the country, a three-year-old-girl was allegedly raped by her landlord in Punjab’s Patiala. Speaking to reporters, police inspector Darshan Singh said that information was received on Thursday night and a case was registered on the statement of the victim’s mother.

“When I returned home, she complained of stomach ache and her condition was deteriorating. When we took her to the hospital, we found out the reason. My son told me that the landlord had taken her with him,” her mother said in a statement.

Following mother’s statement, the police reached the spot for investigation and sent a team in search of the accused, who managed to flee from the scene. The victim is undergoing treatment at Rajindra Hospital.

Earlier on Tuesday, the top court directed all the High Courts to constitute a committee dedicated to expeditiously monitor and regulate all Protection of Children against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act cases. The apex court has also directed the Director General of Police of all the states to form a Special Task Force to ensure that strict investigations are conducted on the same.
