Jalandhar (Punjab): The polling to 22 Punjab Zila Parishads and 150 Panchayat Samitis Elections 2018 is scheduled for today. In view of the Punjab Civic Polls 2018, most of the public school and colleges will remain closed. The main contenders — Congress and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) — are contesting over a total of 354 zila parishad seats and 2,900 panchayat seats. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is contesting on nearly one-third of the seats. Nearly 30,000 employees including police personnel, civil administration and other government departments have been deployed for the election duty in Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala and Nawanshahr districts.

Deputy Commissioner DPS Kharbanda on Tuesday said that all the necessary steps have been taken to make the elections peaceful. To conduct fair elections, law and order situation will be maintained in the state, he said. The Punjab Panchayat, Zila Parishad Elections 2018 Result will be declared on September 22 i.e., Saturday.

The Congress party on Tuesday claimed that they will sweep off the elections, and the AAP and SAD said that they will win if the polls are conducted fairly.

Ahead of the polling in the Punjab Civic Elections 2018, the Congress party already won 25 per cent of the seats unopposed in Majha zone. The polling in the Punjab Civic or Rural Elections 2018 are scheduled to take place tomorrow on September 19.

23 candidates were declared winners unopposed in Tarn Taran, Amritsar, Gurdaspur, and Pathankot of 80 zones of zila parishad, The Tribune reported. The report further mentioned that 177 zones in 723 zones of block samitis were declared unopposed against the Congress candidates.
