New Delhi, May 30: An 18-year-old BJP worker was found hanging from a tree  in Purulia early on Wednesday, said media reports. The BJP has called it a political murder, linking it to the violent civic polls in the state earlier this month, said NDTV.com. Twenty-year-old Trilochan Mahato was found hanging by his own trousers.

Scribbled all over his white T-shirt was a message that said, “This is for doing BJP politics from age 18. Been trying to kill you since the election but failed. Today you are dead.” Another note, with similar sentiments, on a piece of paper was found at his feet. BJP president Amit Shah tweeted, “deeply hurt by the brutal killing of our young karyakarta.”

In the post that also included an image of Trilochan’s body, Shah said: “A young life full of possibilities was brutally taken out under state’s patronage. He was hanged on a tree just because his ideology differed from that of state-sponsored goons.”

NDTV.com reported that the BJP has demanded a CBI inquiry. The party has alleged that the deceased had worked hard during the recent panchayat polls in which Trinamool Congress suffered a few setbacks in Purulia. A Trinamool leader claimed that Trilochan was killed because of infighting. “I want a CID probe. Today there is so much infighting within the BJP for a chair,” said Shrishti Dhar Mahato.

In his complaint, Trilochan’s father has named six men as his son’s killers. In the panchayat polls, the Trinamool Congress won one-third seats uncontested because there were no rival candidates. The party won all the zilla parishad seats while the BJP came second.
