Dutta’s new assignment assumes significance as it comes barely days ahead of the appointment of new CBI Director to replace incumbent Anil Sinha, who retires on December 2. It is for the first time that two Special Secretaries would work in the Home Ministry for the crucial internal security division. The Centre has approved upgradation of a Joint Secretary-level post in the Home Ministry and appointed Dutta as Special Secretary (Internal Security), an official order said. Dutta has been appointed to the post till October 31, 2017 i.E the date of his superannuation, the order said.
