New Delhi: Congress President Rahul Gandhi is going at the BJP-led NDA with all guns blazing, especially on the Rafale deal. On the one hand, in Amethi on his two-day trip, Rahul said “fun has just begun…the Congress will expose the misdeeds of PM Modi in months to come,” he backed it up with a tweet on Tuesday. He said, “To every Air Force officer and Jawan who has served India. To the family of every martyred Indian fighter pilot. To every person who ever worked for HAL. We hear your pain. We understand how you feel. We will bring to justice all those who dishonoured and stole from you.”
With one tweet, Rahul talked about the soldiers safeguarding the nation, every martyr and even HAL employees. It must be noted that the Congress has been alleging that there was something shady about the Rafale deal. Among other allegations is the one about the jets being overpriced and HAL, the state-owned aerospace and defence company, being unceremoniously dropped from the project. Rahul had also called PM Modi the “commander-in-thief” and the country’s “chowkidar” (watchman) who had committed “chori” (theft). “The country’s watchman indulged in theft,” said Rahul, adding the “watchman” took out Rs 30,000 crore from the pockets of soldiers and martyrs and gave it to an industrialist.
Meanwhile, the BJP managed to drag Robert Vadra, son-in-law of Sonia Gandhi, into the controversy by saying that he wanted the deal to help his businessman friend Sanjay Bhandari. Addressing the media, Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said on Monday, “Congress wanted to use Sanjay Bhandari company and Robert Vadra company as a middleman (for this deal). And when their attempt failed to materialize, they (Congress) want to take revenge by ending this deal.”
