New Delhi, April 29: Taking a jibe at Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, Bharatiya Janta Party leader Poonam Mahajan on Saturday said that Rahul Gandhi is messed up in his mind and doing vipassana only confirms this. The remark by the Bharatiya Janta Party MP irked the Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala. Surjewala, in an angry tone, replied, “anyone who is spiritual is not messed up, instead anyone who calls him so is messed up”. Two leaders were sharing the dais with Rajasthan Congress Chief Sachin pilot along with BJD MP Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo in an event organised by India Today group.
Reacting to the allegations of Hemanta Biswa Sarma about the inaccessibility of Rahul Gandhi to common party workers, Surjewala said that Sarma seems to have changed his mind after joining the Bharatiya Janta Party. Surjewala said, “(Himanta Biswa) Sarma saw a great leader in Rahul Gandhi as long as he was a minister in the government”. Hemanta Biswa Sarma has joined the Bharatiya Janta Party ahead of Assam assembly elections. He was considered to have played a crucial role in ensuring the victory for the saffron party in the North-eastern state.
Surjewala also rebuked the critics of dynastic politics withing Congress and said that no Gandhi family person became the Prime Minister post-1989.
The event also witnessed a heated exchange between Rajasthan Congress Chief Sachin Pilot and Poonam Mahajan. While Poonam Mahajan held that anti-romeo squad formed by Uttar Pradesh government was a “cool idea”, Sachin Pilot said that squads “cannot unleash terror” in the name of checking harassment of girls. Biju Janta Dal MP too said that violence by Cow vigilantes has emerged as a hindrance in development. He said,”We have to stop talking about gau rakshaks and anti-Romeo squads, and talk of jobs and development”.
